A description of the self-guided walks and brochures available at Hoyt Arboretum.
Celebrate Spring
brochure available April - June 2008
Magnolias are among the best-loved harbingers of spring. Nowhere is this display more spectacular than along the Hoyt Arboretum's Magnolia Trail.
Magnolia season begins
the first week in April and
extends into early summer, during which time visitors can enjoy a rich array of flower colors, from white and cream, to pink and purple -- even red and yellow. If the common garden magnolia knocks your socks off, just wait until you see the bigleaf magnolia tree (Magnolia macrophylla) with leaves up to three feet long and flowers up to a foot in diameter. And you won't want to miss the upright red blossoms of the red lotus tree (Manglietia insignis), which is endangered in its native habitat in western China and North Vietnam.

Winter Walks
brochure available November 2008 - March 2009
No matter what trail you find yourself on in Hoyt Arboretum, there’s a lot to see in winter -- things of beauty which are often camougflaged the rest of the year, like naked branches of beech and birch silhouetted against gray skies, rich colors of evergreen foliage, and rain-awakened
lichens and licorice ferns festooning tree trunks and branches.

The Winter Garden has a concentration of winter interest plants suitable for small gardens. It features evergreen (or purple, red, yellow) foliage and colorful berries as well as ornamental bark and fragrant flowers.
Free, self-guided Winter Walk brochures are available at all times, seven days a week at the Hoyt Arboretum Visitor Center from November through March.
