Curious about the trees of South America?  Join Hoyt volunteer guide Jim Gersbach as he shares images and impressions from his recent trip to the monkey puzzle forests of Chile and the Chilean Andes.  Class will begin indoors with a 45-minute presentation.  Afterwards, Jim will lead a 45-minute walk on the trails to visit some of the South American trees in Hoyt Arboretum’s collection.  Learn about characteristics, adaptations, cultural significance, life-cycles and more!

About the instructor: Oregon-born Jim Gersbach is a long-time volunteer guide at Hoyt and a past board member of Hoyt Arboretum Friends Foundation. He is the new president of the non-profit Oregon Community Trees, and a founding member of Trees for Life Oregon. He is a senior planting and pruning crew leader for Friends of Trees, and an active volunteer with his neighborhood Concordia Tree Team in northeast Portland.
