Join Disabled Hikers at Hoyt Arboretum to celebrate the publication of The Disabled Hiker’s Guide to Western Washington and Oregon by Syren Nagakyrie. This book, written by a Disabled person, is the first of its kind to consider the diverse needs of disabled people in the outdoors. It is a groundbreaking publication for its disability representation and the information it provides.
The gathering will begin with an author talk from Syren, who will discuss the book, the process of writing it, and future plans. Attendees can then join a hike (weather depending) on the Bristlecone Pine Trail, an accessible route that has a lovely overlook and ends at the Gingko Tree collection.
Meet at the Stevens Pavilion, across the street from the Visitors Center. Books will be available for purchase inside the Visitor Center.
All are welcome! This event is open to disabled and nondisabled community. The location is wheelchair accessible. It is required that you wear a mask.
