These guided walks provide opportunities for parents and children to learn a new outdoor skill together. Each session covers a new topic and includes activities to strengthen your birding skills. The Arboretum provides loan binoculars and field guides, or participants are welcome to bring their own. What better way to have family time than learning in nature together?
Each program will meet at the Hoyt Arboretum Visitor Center and include a short walk on soft surface trails (up to 0.5 miles). Family Bird Walks are geared toward students ages 5 – 12 years old accompanied by an adult. Family Bird Walks are scheduled every second Saturday from April through October.
About the instructor: Longtime birder and teacher Laura Whittemore loves to show beginners the tricks of the trade. She has taught classes for Audubon Society of Portland and previously worked for Backyard Bird Shop.
Group size is limited to 15 participants; registration is required. Recommended for adults and youth ages 5-12 years old. $7/attendee. Register using the form below, or call (503) 823-1649. There are no refunds for cancellations within two weeks of the walk date.
