Join Wildlife Biologist Avery Craddock for an evening ‘owl’ about owls!  We will be learning about the importance of different owl species in our northwest forests and getting hands-on field experience while we’re at it! Bring your headlamps, jackets, and hiking shoes, because we will be using special tools to try and locate some owls during the program!  Class will start indoors where we will spend 30-60 minutes reviewing owls that are native to the northwest, which owls you might find around Hoyt Arboretum, and problems that owls face in our own backyards. We will then head out around sunset to put our new skills to the test to see if we can locate some of our elusive nocturnal friends. Who knows what we might find!

  • Please pre-register, class size is limited
  • Registration closes Friday, March 28th at 4:00pm
  • An email with additional program details will be sent closer to the program date

About the instructor: Avery Craddock been very fortunate to experience environmental sciences in a plethora of different capacities! He has worked in the San Juan Islands, the North Cascades, and across the Puget Sound as a conservationist – overseeing the removal of invasive plant species. Avery also had the honor of being able to share my experiences with others as a teacher in Washington, Texas, Georgia, and now Oregon with Hoyt. Most recently, he’s been overseeing wildlife research – specializing in owls throughout Oregon’s Coast Range.
