With 189 acres of trees, shrubs, gardens, and trails to maintain, stewardship of Hoyt Arboretum is a year-round job.
It’s also a lot of fun to get your hands dirty and make new friends in the outdoors. Volunteers might clear brush, remove invasive species, dig trails, plant trees, prune, or weed gardens. No experience is required — we’ll provide gloves, tools, and training.
We have opportunities available for all kinds of schedules:
Tuesday Crew
The original Hoyt Arboretum work party, the Tuesday Crew has been helping to keep our gardens clean, lush, safe, and beautiful for over 40+ years! The crew meets every Tuesday, all year-round, rain or shine, from 8am until noon. (Check out the Tuesday Crew featured in this episode of Oregon Field Guide.) If you’re interested in participating in Tuesday Crew, email volunteer@hoytarboretum.org.
Saturday Crew
The Saturday Crew does much of the same work as the Tuesday Crew, but the hours and weather are generally more amenable. This group meets from 9 am until noon, rain or shine, approximately two Saturdays per month from March through October. Check below for upcoming opportunities.
Group and Corporate Volunteer Crews
We welcome your corporate, scouting, educational, or special interest group for private stewardship crews to help us take care of our trees and trails. Volunteering at the Hoyt Arboretum is a great way for your group to build teamwork skills and camaraderie, while working outside among the trees fosters communication. When scheduling, please allow four weeks of lead time for us to accommodate your group. We’ll take care of all the training and tools, including gloves. To schedule a volunteer group, send an email to volunteer@hoytarboretum.org or call (503) 823-1649 with your group size and preferred dates and times. Private events are generally scheduled on weekday mornings.
